It's a long way up, past the riad's sitting room and bedrooms, a dining room, the counter of the cafe which has a few overspill seats and finally up to the roof.

I think it's five floors. It's worth the climb even for ancient me. That view is really stunning.

The cafe's been discovered by the bright young things of El Jadida and is full of westernised lads and lasses who seem to have money and leisure. There's a smattering of foreigners there generally.

The seats in the open air are usually taken and you have to move fast to get one when it becomes vacant.

But there's usually space in the part under the awning from where you can dart out and grab an open air table.

The view's still great from under the awning. There's just one waiter so service is not the fastest in the world, but with a view like this, it doesn't matter.

There is no food available but I've seen people bringing their own when I've been there. Not takeaways, but croissants and pastries.

Coffees are 15 dirhams each. A lot of money has gone into this project, both the riad and the cafe, so I hope that they emerge from the present crisis and reopen asap.
